There are many procedures that fall into the category of cosmetic dentistry. While it’s true that all of them improve appearance, increase confidence, and usually result in more smiling, not all of them are purely cosmetic. The majority of procedures serve a dual purpose. Whether it’s improving oral hygiene, reducing tooth decay, or correcting a bite to relieve pain, the goal of good dentistry is to maximize the patient’s overall quality of life. The professionals at West Jordan Dentist offer a full range of cosmetic dental services with that goal in mind.

By helping your child prevent problems before they exist, he or she can be spared a significant amount of pain later. Children who have healthy teeth can talk more clearly and quickly. By making regular appointments, the dentist can easily and quickly treat any conditions that may arise. He can also take measures to help prevent future problems. He can also help educate parents on how to properly maintain oral health between visits. This will help minimize future problems and save money.

State-of-the-art dental fillings are an enamel colored plastic and glass combination known as composite resin fillings. These fillings look great and are far more cosmetic than silver and gold fillings. Tooth-colored fillings can also be made from porcelain, but are more expensive than composite resin fillings.

In addition to restoring your smile and maintaining the true shape of your face, bridges also restore your ability to chew properly and prevent movement of other teeth. Bridges are so named because they bridge the gap caused by a missing tooth or teeth. The best type of bridge to use is determined by the location of the missing tooth and the condition of the surrounding teeth.

Crowns, which are also called caps, completely cover a damaged tooth to restore its full functionality as well as its appearance. Crowns are constructed of superior materials and is the longest-lasting cosmetic dental procedure. They are often used in cases in which other procedures would not be effective.

Dental implants can be an important way to improve your smile and your dental health. Dental implants can be used to bridge gaps in your smile caused by tooth decay or injury, and are an impressive alternative to dentures. Through metal posts secured in your jawbone, dental implants can be a natural, safe alternative to dentures or tooth bridges. If you are looking for superior dental implant surgery, West Jordan Dentist is ready to analyze your smile and get started today.

Outside of brushing and flossing, dental exams are the most important thing you can do to preserve oral health. By having regular checkups, your dentist can ensure that your teeth and gums stay as healthy as possible. If you do have an issue, then it can be taken care of before it becomes too large, saving time and money, as small restorations or sealants cause less discomfort and are less expensive than emergency services. Be sure to make regular appointments for exams and cleanings as all patients should have an exam and a cleaning every six months.

Oral surgery is a general term that covers many other procedures and treatments. Oral surgery can be used to treat a number of conditions such as: dental implants, wisdom teeth removal, TMJ disorder, facial trauma, corrective jaw surgery, oral pathology, anesthesia and bone grafts.

Not all dentists can perform oral surgery, it is a specialization in the dental field and requires additional training outside of the realm of general dentistry.

What is a Root Canal?

Our teeth are not solid all the way through. The enamel covering the tooth houses a hollow area that is filled with a pulp-like substance. Inside this substance are nerves that carry sensation to your teeth. Over time, the nerves within this pulpy area can become damaged or infected. This is especially true when there is any damage to the outside enamel of the tooth, such as a cavity or chipped tooth. Pain is the biggest thing you notice, but your entire tooth can be at risk.

Why Root Canals Are Needed?

When the inner section of your tooth becomes infected, the nerves send pain signals (a lot of them!) to let you know something is wrong. If left untreated, the irritation within your tooth can become infected and may even become abscessed. When this happens, you face the risk of other medical problems is the abscess releases toxins into your system, a great deal of pain and the risk of losing your entire tooth. Having the dentist perform a root canal will help you save your tooth – perhaps for the rest of your lifetime.
